Just in case you were wondering…

… Camel hair jackets smell like decomposing wookie carcasses when they get wet.

Okay, maybe that is not strictly true. Maybe it is only camel hair jackets purchased at “Value Village” in Springfield, Oregon that smell like decomposing wookie carcasses when they get wet.

I swear I smile sometimes

You see, I have this really fantastic jacket. It is cute, it is warm, it is made of camel hair. But Oregon has this funny thing called “rain,” and camel hair, as it turns out, is not a fantastic rain repellent. Nor is it fantastic at not smelling foul.

But I am boycotting my puffy blue raincoat in favor of this camel hair coat anyway. Why? Because my raincoat is ugly and makes me depressed, and this coat is cute and it makes me happy.

I’m sure my friends will be willing to hold their noses for fashion’s sake.

(P.S.: Do you like how neatly I managed to reference wookies twice in one week? I may have to make this a tradition.)

I find it odd that camel hair is not a good rain repellent seeing as they drink so much water.

    *shrug*

i suppose that comes from living in a land of dryness, aka the desert

though apparently camel hair jackets (i would have thought they were just normal peacoats dyed beige instead of black) are all the range, a know a couple other girls with them…

You call yourself a Star Wars fan and you can’t even spell “Wookiee?” Good heavens.

I really like those kinds of coats, though I’ve never smelled one when it was wet. I have been looking for a good coat but since I hate shopping it’s tough.

And how exactly do you know what Wookee smells like?

James – I knew that was you before I even read your comment. I remain as skeptical as I was when you first proposed this possibility.

Philip – I think that wool, dyed jackets are sometimes called “camel” because of their color. But I’m pretty sure mine is the genuine article.

Ian – You’re right! I cried for five minutes after you left this comment. (Just kidding.)

Damian – Wouldn’t you like to know. :D

Actually I think it’s pretty much any natural fiber. I have a wool coat… several actually, one acquired at a Value Village in Halifax, NS… and my Mom has a few. In my experience, when wet they all smell like wet animal (pick your fav: dog, cat, sheep, goat, camel?, wookiee). It ain’t pleasant for the nose.

I suggest an umbrella to go with that cute coat. ;)
