(This post contains a BIG spoiler for the Star Wars novel Sacrifice. You’ve been warned.)
I know, I know.
Star Wars is not real. Mara Jade is a fictional character. Authors have a right to do what they will with their fictional characters. Yada yada yada…
But… do you even know how many hours I put into this website? Do you know how many more hours I spent longing to be Mara Jade? Or at least to meet her? Yeah, I thought not.
So, what do you think they did in the latest Star Wars novel? They killed her off!
Never mind the fact that I have not read a single Star Wars novel or spent more than thirty seconds thinking about Mara Jade for the last four years; I am still taking this personally. I wish there was some way I could rectify this horrible atrocity—but it seems the deed has been done, so all I can really say is…
… Mara lives, folks. MARA LIVES.

Another Wookieepedia reader, just like myself!
I really need to read the novels; Peter tells me they’re good (and he’s probably forcing a bunch upon me when I go to visit him in a few weeks. Also, Mara Jade rocks.

(i can totally picture you being totally incensed. it’s actually making me chuckle…..heh.)

what?! outrage! how can they do that? one author can’t go running around killing off characters someone else created! boycott the book, write a new and better one, and change the wikipedia entry! (changing the entry may infact alter reality and the book itself, so it’s worth a shot)
:)
sorry to hear that, MJ

Mara Lives! You know, I’ll bet it was George Lucas who told that author to kill off Mara. George has to be stopped from making bad decisions with the greatest mythology of all time! Geeze, as if Haden Christensen (and the prequels, for that matter) wasn’t bad enough…. I’m sorry and I know how this makes you feel. This is like seeing Yoda flip around like a jackass all over again…. OMG bad… Star Wars memories…. coming back… to… haunt me!!!

Lasse - Some of them are! I especially recommend all the ones by Timothy Zahn. A lot of the other ones are just plain awful.
Cameron - Yeah, it really did.
Teal - Thank you. I miss you.
Philip & Levi: Teehee!

I’ve actually never read any Star Wars, but I feel your pain. May she rise again in a completely unexpected manner. Maybe.

TELL PEOPLE THAT YOUR POST IS A SPOILER!
I fully intend to read that book, and now you’ve just given away a rather significant part of it.
Warn people before you do that, would you please?
(But I do agree with you, even if it was inevitable. A finer character was never written. Except perhaps Thrawn…)

C.W. Holeman III - Oops! You have my sincere apologies—really. I really hate spoilers. I think I was just so angry that it didn’t even occur to me that some of my readers might one day read that book. I’m so sorry! The problem’s been fixed, though.

Way to go, Erin. Now I just spent three hours on Wookipedia. I thought I was done with all of this, but I find my love of Star Wars is rooted just a bit deeper than the surgeon can cut. Terret Yeth will RETURN! BWA HA HA!

Glad I’m not all alone in my mourning. I haven’t been reading any of the new books either, not since the Yuzzhan Vong mess, and my dissapointment with the new movies. But to kill off Mara, that was so wrong on so many levels.
I learned about it by reading a review on Amazon. Then I went in my room and had a little cry. I feel like part of me has been ripped out.
I mean, what was better than finally getting a blue lightsaber so I could finally pretend I WAS her? Only reading VoTF and having a good five years wishing and hoping come through for me.

Jem (Even though your name’s not Jem and I refuse to acknowledge it as such
) - Glad I could help.
Jingle - Lucky! I only could ever find a GREEN lightsaber.
And yes, Vision of the Future was best. book. ever. If you were a girl.
Joel - Please. Don’t tell me you’ve never had a crush on a fictional character.

Fans seem to be taking this pretty hard. Nice to find another Wookieepedia fan.

i’m hooked on the star wars series as well and i gotta tell ya. I’m still holding on to the idea that Mara is not really gone. After alllets not forget about lukes first love Callista. Plus I’m getting a funny feeling that not only is Mara coming back but so is Anikan Solo and that Jacen is not the real Jacen either. Call me idelistic or extremly hopeful. But just the sense i’m getting from the latest books. Keep the Faith
